Only 2 Drivers Warned in North Idaho for ‘Slow Driver’ Law
While the new ‘slow driver’ law has proven effective in North Idaho, still there have been zero tickets issued in its first year. The law was put in place in an attempt to crack down on drivers going way too slow in passing lanes.
Apparently, no one has broken this newly established law yet. Nor have there been any car accidents in North Idaho due to drivers going under the speed limit.
It’s been more than a year since Idaho passed its new ‘slow driver’ law in July of 2018, making it illegal to hold up traffic by going too slow in a passing lane. Still, not a single traffic violation has been issued in northern parts of the state for this law.
In a country of road rage, Idaho State Police have seen their fair share of aggravated drivers desperately trying to get from point A to point B. This is especially true for North Idaho highways.
But it mainly comes down to one factor. ISP Master Corporal Chuck Robnett says, “Be kind to your other drivers is what we ask.”
Corporal Robnett agrees with drivers in that they everyone has a place to be and they want to get their as quickly as possible.
Only two drivers in Northern Idaho were given traffic warnings since the law went into effect. But that doesn’t include the rest of the state. Just under 60 warnings and tickets were issued to drivers in other parts of Idaho. Though most of those traffic citations were given to drivers in the Boise and Twin Falls area.
Robnett says to Idaho drivers, “The left lane is not necessarily the lane to drive in. It’s the passing lane.”
Even though ISP has handed out a low number of warnings and tickets, the police still keep an eye out for slow drivers using the passing lane.
Drivers are allowed to be in the passing lane as long as they’re going the speed limit. The fine for this moving violation is $90.
