Three people and a golden retriever tragically lost their lives in a Ketchum car crash. On Wednesday morning, an elderly couple and a local firefighter and his dog were killed in a head-on collision.
The head-on crash occurred just before 10 a.m. south of the Elkhorn Road intersection on Highway 75.
Peter Jarvis, 82, of Sun Valley, was driving southbound with his wife, Sally Jarvis, also of Sun Valley, before crashing into another vehicle. Driving his 2010 Volvo, Jarvis crossed over the center lane divider into northbound traffic.
According to the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, Jarvis immediately collided head-on with a 2007 Toyota pickup truck driven by Piper Reed, 34, of Ketchum.
Jarvis struck the vehicle and died at the scene of the crash. His wife and Reed were taken to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center. Both succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Reed’s golden retriever, who was also in the pickup at the time of the crash, passed away at the scene.
All passengers were wearing seatbelts in the collision. No other vehicles were involved.
Sheriff Steve Harkins said in a statement, “We send our thoughts and prayers to all those involved in this collision.”
Even the Ketchum and Sun Valley Volunteer Firefighter Association wrote on Facebook that Reed had recently graduated from their academy.
“We lost a great young firefighter in a traffic accident today,” the Facebook post said, following the Ketchum car crash.
