An I-84 collision took the life of one man and left one injured on Tuesday afternoon. The two vehicles collided head-on just outside of Hazelton, Idaho, in Jerome County.
According to Idaho State Police, 38-year-old Marty Lowder, of Rupert, Idaho, was driving westbound before he struck another vehicle and died at the scene of the crash.
Lowder, traveling in a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria, crossed over the center median and drove directly into oncoming traffic. His vehicle immediately collided head-on with a large semi-truck, carrying several trailers of potatoes.
Both vehicles came to rest in the left lane of eastbound traffic. Both the car and the semi truck caught on fire.
Lowder succumbed to his injuries at the crash. The driver of the semi truck, Rosalio Llamas, also 38, of Burien, Washington, was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Center in Twin Falls.
Next of kin have been notified. The eastbound lanes were blocked off for 5 hours, according to ISP.
It is still unknown if either driver had their seatbelts on. The I-84 collision is still being investigated by Idaho State Police.
