A single-vehicle crash took the life of an elderly man early Wednesday evening on Highway 30 not far from Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. Emergency responders were unable to save the man before he could be airlifted to a local area hospital.
Idaho State Police said Henry Hanson, 84, was traveling east along Highway 30 just west of Lava Hot Springs when he lost control of his Subaru Forester, drove off the right shoulder, and flipped over. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Hanson was the only occupant in the Forester.
Emergency responders said they were forced to extricate Hanson from his wrecked Subaru and then perform CPR on him. But their efforts were to no avail. Hanson succumbed to his injuries before a helicopter could transport him to a hospital for treatment.
Idaho State Police said Hanson was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Hanson had recently relocated to Lava Hot Springs from California.
The cause of the crash is currently being investigated by Idaho State Police.
